High Roller III: A Hard Day on the Bay
Right b’ys, Kite here with an important sea story.
Kite’s putting his serious face on for this one.
The High Roller III got into trouble near Bay de Verde and started taking on water. The Canadian Coast Guard helped rescue the crew. The Sacred Bay tried to tow her toward Harbour Grace. But the pumps ran into trouble, the weather was getting worse, and the tow had to be abandoned. The High Roller III drifted onto the rocks.
Then the tug Nauti Buoy tried to pull her clear. But a rope got caught in Nauti Buoy’s propeller, and the Coast Guard had to tow her back too.
The Dalton Warrior came to help with the salvage, and fuel was taken off the High Roller III. We don’t know yet what the next step will be, or what caused her to take on water.
The sea can turn on ye quick, b’ys. Keep an eye on the weather and heed the warnings. No boat is worth a life.
The crew have been back aboard the High Roller III, gathering their gear, and divers have been in the water inspecting the vessel. The new Mustad autoline system was reported removed. They’re still working out what will happen to the boat, so we’ll wait for the next update.
The scrapping crew had been there a few days ago, and now a new photo shows the High Roller III alongside with equipment removed from the wheelhouse. It gives us another clue about what may be happening to her, but we’re still waiting for confirmation of her final fate.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to NL Maritime for giving me the opportunity to work alongside them with media, news updates, and coverage surrounding incidents like this. Being able to contribute, help share information, and work with people who are passionate about Newfoundland and Labrador’s marine industry is something I’m genuinely grateful for. Thank you for the opportunity and the trust.
Kite wants to thank the Canadian Coast Guard, the crews of the Nauti Buoy and Dalton Warrior, the commercial divers, and everyone working behind the scenes. There’s a lot of teamwork and experience involved in a response like this.
Kite’s thoughts and prayers are with the crew, their families, and all their friends who care about them. We’re hoping for the best for everyone involved. ❤️
Built for a purpose
We can’t cover every story, and we don’t need to. This space is for selected stories that matter to Newfoundland and its communities—especially when the sea, the weather, working life, or a difficult day touches people’s lives.
We’ll do our best to check what’s known, be clear about what isn’t, and tell each story with respect. No rushing families, no turning hardship into spectacle. When a story calls for it, there’ll be room here for care, support, and prayers for everyone affected.
Kite may bring the news back to the Cove, but the people in the story always come first.
