The Old Newfoundland Port

Every harbour has a way of holding a life together. This is the old Newfoundland port at the heart of Puffincove.

A harbour shaped by the sea

Picture a small outport gathered around its harbour: a wharf reaching into the water, boats coming and going when weather allows, homes set along the shore, and a store where supplies and news meet. The light is there for the ones making their way home. The tide and the weather set the pace of the day.

This is Puffincove’s story place, built from the feeling and details of old Newfoundland outport life. It is not meant to stand for one particular town. As the page grows, photographs, memories, and the stories you share will help give this harbour its own shape.

A place where neighbours matter

In a small harbour, people know when a boat is late, when someone needs a hand, and when there is room at the table. Work, family, weather, and community all belong to the same story. A bit of teasing belongs there too, as long as everyone is in on the laugh.

That is the feeling we want to keep in Puffincove: a quiet harbour, a warm kettle, and a welcome for anyone who comes ashore.

The crew’s home

George helps keep the light on. Selma looks after supplies. Wils keeps the logbook, while Kite is always ready to collect a bit of news—or follow the smell of something cooking. The harbour gives them a place to meet, work, tell stories, and get into the odd bit of trouble.

Old ways, new tools

The sea and the work around it keep changing, but many things still feel familiar: a boat coming into harbour, a neighbour lending a hand, and a story carried home. Some things don’t change; only the tools we use.

We’ll add to this page as the journey continues—with old and new boats, harbour memories, photographs, and the small details that make an outport feel like home.
