Harbour Store Safety Guide

Staying Safe Online & By Phone
Puffin Cove is a safe harbour — here’s how we protect our community.

Puffin Cove Will NEVER:
- ask for your password
- pressure you to buy anything
- demand e-Transfers or gift cards
- send shortened or suspicious links
- rush you into “urgent” decisions
We protect — we never pressure.
If something feels off, message us directly.

High Pressure = High Scam Risk
Scammers thrive on fear:
“Act now!”
“Your account is closing!”
“Click this immediately!”
Real places — including us — never talk like that.
Take your time. Breathe. Walk the harbour at your pace.

Check the Email Address, Not the Name
Scammers use friendly names but shady email addresses.
Always look at the part after the @ symbol.
If it looks odd or unrelated?
Scam.
Puffin Cove only uses publicly listed email addresses.

Never Click Unexpected Links
If you didn’t ask for it — don’t tap it.
Scammers disguise links to steal passwords or trick you into fake websites.
The Harbour Store only links to:
- official Puffin Cove pages
- clearly marked, safe payment buttons

No Company Calls You Out of the Blue
Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, CRA — none of them call randomly to say:
“Your device is infected.”
“Your taxes are overdue.”
“Your account is locked.”
These calls are always scams.
Hang up without a word.

Never Allow Remote Access
If someone wants to control your phone or computer — stop.
Legitimate tech support only connects when you ask them to, never the other way around.

Emotional Rush = Scam Attempt
- Romance scams
- “Emergency” money requests
- Sudden emotional stories
A real person builds trust slowly.
A scammer builds it instantly.

Trust Your Gut — It’s Your Lantern
If something feels wrong, it is wrong.
Pause.
Think.
Ask someone you trust.
Or reach out to us — we’ll help you look at it.
